Couples Therapy
As trained clinical psychologists we are able to draw on various techniques and therapies to tailor your therapy to suit your relationship dynamic.
We will help you to evaluate your relationship and to find a way to address potentially difficult topics without conflict. It can be helpful when difficulties exist within relationships to talk this through in a more formal therapeutic setting. Through understanding why some problems may have developed and how they have been maintained you can start to develop better communication and empathy for one another.
OCP will support you in exploring whether a more structured method, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), might suit you best or whether a more relaxed style might work best, such as using Psychodynamic or Systemic approaches.
What does couples therapy look like?
Lots of people think that relationship counselling is a last resort for when things get really bad. But we’re here to support you, no matter what situation you are in. Even if your difficulty seems trivial, we can help.
Our job is to create a safe and supportive environment to help you find a way through the difficulties you are experiencing. Often couples find it helpful to have some goals or objectives to work towards – our Clinical Psychologists will support you in exploring these goals.
You might decide to come to counselling with your partner or alone. Or you might have a combination of solo and couple sessions.
